Get This! Gallery presents Harrison Keys’ solo show, “Pressure Luck.” The show will be comprised of mixed media drawings rendered in Keys’ signature illustrative style. The exhibition will run from July 24 – September 04, 2010 in the gallery’s Midtown-West location.
Harrison Keys’ persona is imaginative, introspective and secretive. A deft draftsman in his own right, the drawings evoke the innocent coyness of classic children’s book illustrations. He is a wordsmith, and the text that accompanies his drawings is injected with cryptic adult humor and wordplay. The title of the show itself is a play on the phrase, “Press Your Luck”. The result is nothing short of seductive, as the images have a pop surrealist sentiment that is largely playful, and at times cynical.
Keys’ influences are deeply rooted in his love for the immediacy, street art, the anonymity of graffiti, along with a marked respect for the DIY aesthetic. A carpenter by trade, his craftsman background comes to the forefront, as seen in past works of wooden cowboy boot cut-outs painted with decorative patterning reminiscent of Barry McGee, and hand painted signs for local businesses throughout the city.
Harrison Keys attended Georgia State University in pursuit of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking. Keys has exhibited for many years in the Atlanta art scene in numerous local Atlanta galleries and has been involved in several public art projects. Pressure Luck marks the artist’s second solo show with Get This! Gallery. He lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia.
Through September 4.
