$50,000 Hudgens Prize Winner Chosen

She Prays Happiness

Just received word on the Hudgens Prize Winner, and it’s Gyun Hur! At tonight’s award ceremony, prize committee Chairman Linda Lindeborg announced that Hur would receive the $50,000 prize and a solo exhibit in December of 2011 at the Hudgens Center.

Jurors were David Kiehl, Curator of Prints at The Whitney Museum of American Art; Sylvie Fortin, Editor in Chief of ART PAPERS Magazine; and Eungie Joo, Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Programs at The New Museum.

Hur’s piece in the Finalists Exhibition is called “She Prays Happiness,” described in the press release as “a complex installation of bright stripes from both deconstructed silk flower elements and paint, with an accompanying photograph.” The Finalists Exhibition is on display at the Hudgens Center until Feb. 19 and they are offering free admission in December.

I spoke with Gyun last year at Gallery Stokes during her show, “A Requiem in the Garden.”

Congratulations Gyun!
