Alan Avery Art Company will hold a reception for an exhibition featuring new work from the latest American Master wood turner, Anatoly Tsiris and new gallery artist, Richard Pratt.
Anatoly Tsiris has developed a unique style and method for turning large wood sculptures, as well as smaller pieces. He created his own lathe to turn his larger-than-life vessels with remarkably small openings. Tsiris’ organic forms are cleanly derived from the natural material he works with. For the artist, each piece of wood has its own story that he is helping come out.
With this exhibition, the gallery introduces Richard Pratt. The artist’s minimal acrylic paintings consist of flat areas of color with clean outlines. The flat, matte surface is made from repeated layers of color. Pratt’s images have a calming effect, but also present a tension between the natural and abstract. His current project, “A Rake’s Progress,” explores visual orientation and narrative within abstract paintings of scattered leaves.
Through August 6.
