MudFire Gallery hosts nationally recognized contemporary porcelain artist Heather Knight. Known for clean lines, modern aesthetic and a fresh design sensibility, Heather’s exhibit features porcelain sculpture, wall tiles, and aquatically-inspired tableware.
Heather Knight crafts work in porcelain which reflects both her love of modern design and admiration for the natural world.
Heather is a passionate ambassador for clay and the handmade. Her work has received international exposure, featured in top design magazines including Bold Life, Coastal Living, Interior Design Magazine, Western Interiors, Charleston Home, House Beautiful, Cabin Life, and Portland Spaces. Heather also recently appeared on NBC on The Nate Berkus Show, a nationally syndicated design program.
Heather’s work is focused on a nearly all-white color palette, allowing her to call attention to the brilliance of the clay, and narrowing the viewer’s attention to texture and form. Her work is alive with rhythm and repetition, creating the illusion of movement as light and shadow play alongside each other. Sea creatures are a dominant motif, with urchins, anemones, corals, and shells serving as major sources of inspiration. The occasional splash of color adds variety, energy, and delight to the show.
The show includes a large number of tabletop vessel forms, sculptural pods, and textured wall tiles. The work is quiet and sublime, at times still with a piercing danger, and otherwise inviting exploration through countless shadowy passages to the deeper interior.
Through June 19.
