Sound Performance at whitespec

Saturday, September 29, is the last day of “Selections from The New England Primer.” A sound performance by Matt Gilbert, Ryan Peoples and friends in whitespec at whitespace gallery will take place at 4 p.m. Selections from The New England Primer is an interactive sound installation by Matt Gilbert in collaboration with Ryan Peoples. It investigates American approaches to childhood education as evidenced in The New England Primer, America’s first school textbook. “Center” at ATHICA

Stephen Marc at Emory

Stephen Marc is a contemporary American griot who uses photography to construct thematic mélanges of metaphor and memory. He is a digital montage artist whose work provides a visual interpretation of American history with an emphasis on the black experience. His images weave more than 500 years of African American life, history and culture into a digital quilt comprised of family snapshots, photographs of historical sites, documents and other remnants alongside modern cultural references. Laurel Nakadate at ACAC

The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC) announces the opening of Laurel Nakadate: Photographs, Videos & Performances, an exhibition focusing on the artist’s works which explore themes of voyeurism, loneliness, power, and desire. Many of these were featured in “Only The Lonely,” Nakadate’s ten-year retrospective at MoMA PS1 in 2011.
