Sound Performance at whitespec

September 26th, 2012 Jason Parker Posted in Event, Installation, Multimedia, Performance No Comments »

Saturday, September 29, is the last day of “Selections from The New England Primer.” A sound performance by Matt Gilbert, Ryan Peoples and friends in whitespec at whitespace gallery will take place at 4 p.m.

Selections from The New England Primer is an interactive sound installation by Matt Gilbert in collaboration with Ryan Peoples. It investigates American approaches to childhood education as evidenced in The New England Primer, America’s first school textbook.

The homemade sound controllers, some made from salvaged electronics, converts the content of the Primer — lessons based on rote memorization, strict discipline and Puritan values — into material for free self-directed play and investigation. Come enjoy Matt Gilbert, Ryan Peoples and friends’ performance and the last day of Selections from The New England Primer!
