The Atlanta Collage Society welcomes the National Collage Society’s 25th Annual Show with an opening reception at Mason Murer on Nov. 6 from 6-9 p.m. The show contains work by several local Atlanta Collage Society artists as well as other participants from across the country.

The show will be judged by Danielle Avram of the High Museum of Art and awards will be announced at 6:15 p.m. by National Collage Society President Gretchen Bierbaum. ACS/NCS member Chery Baird then will give a short discussion of the history of collage to the public beginning at 6:30 pm in the gallery.

Chery Baird’s full lecture, “The History of Collage & Artists Who Have Made It Great” will be held on Sunday, November 8, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Georgia Perimeter College Dunwoody Campus Library.  This lecture is open to the public for a fee of $25. Also located in the library will be the current exhibition by the Atlanta Collage Society entitled “Collage: the ART of Recycling,” opening Oct. 28 and up through Nov. 22.

On Saturday, November 7, 2009, from 2-5, Binders Art Supply hosts a wine & cheese reception for both organizations in their Buckhead store.  There will be six or more artists demonstrating techniques from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.  Gretchen Bierbaum, President of NCS, will demonstrate a new technique from her soon-to-be-published book on collage.

In addition to these activities, there will be a special tour of the High Art Museum’s collage and works on paper on Thursday, November 5, 2009 beginning at 4:00 p.m.  Included in the tour will be a behind-the-scenes showing of unframed works on paper from the Museum’s archives hosted by Danielle Avram, Curatorial Assistant, Modern & Contemporary Art (and awards judge for the National Show).   Cost of the tour is $13.  Sign up for the tour by contacting ACS President Barbara Dunham.
